There is an urban legend that says it's bad to have plants in the bedroom because they use our oxygen while we sleep. Well, the botanical expert Rafael Medina, from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Connecticut and author of the blog Diary of a Copepod calculated it. According to his calculations, a 70 kg human consumes 1.55% of the oxygen in the room every night, while a plant only consumes 0.02% of the oxygen in the room. That's good news because:

1. There is no problem to sleep with somone else.

2. It dismantles the urban legend: there's noproblem sleeping with plants in the bedroom.

Did you know that in a poorly ventilated room, up to 5 times more pollutants can be accumulate than in well ventilated rooms? The NASA study found out that some plants like spatyphylium, spider plant, palm tree or pothos are very efficient in absorbing pollutants such as formaldehyde, benzene, xylene and trichlorethylene released from paint, furniture varnish or traffic. Plants are not everything, good ventilation is important, but if you live in the city center and prefer not to open the windows very often, air purifying plants will help you sleep better.

In addition, plants humidify the air and regulate temperature in a natural way.
